Glam and Green - Baby Products

Glam and Green Products for the Little One

With a few friends having just had babies, or about to have a baby, I was inspired to write a post on some natural and organic products that could be used on babies. Imagine being able to use products that have zero chemicals or nasty ingredients on your child's precious skin? It is possible!

Before I introduce you to some great products - click here to read about Tasha Sach's from Mioja (review) ,journey of raising her children using natural products and immersing them in the beauty of what the world has to offer, naturally.

Thank you Tasha - what an interesting read!

And now, some information on baby products:

Enjoy a bonding experience with your baby using this relaxing and soothing massage oil. This gentle blend of chamomile, Lavender and olive oil will help keep your baby’s skin moisturised and can also help relax colicky babies. As for all of our products, this massage oil contains no petrochemical ingredients/mineral oil."

I truly believe in the calming and healing power of Lavender, so this is a great bed time product to use on the little one as a massage oil or even for bath time.

REVIEW: Detox Bath Salts

Detox Bath Salts from Essentially Tessa

Since spring had started - I decided I wanted to change my lifestyle -  I've changed my eating habits, began exercising more, in an attempt in wanting to be a healthier person. I spoke to Tessa from Essentially Tessa about my lifestyle change and she suggested I use some detox bath salts that would help me in the process of becoming a healthier little lady.

Here's some information from Tessa about the salts:

" By producing copious perspiration, my DETOX AROMA BATH CRYSTAL formulation is one of the most effective methods of eliminating metabolic wastes through the surface of the skin. Therefore it is also excellent to ward off cold and flu symptoms; it opens the sinuses and eases muscular aches and pains including painful menstruation.

The crystals relieve pain by drawing acidic wastes (mainly uric acid) from the muscles and joints therefore it is also highly beneficial to sufferers of rheumatism and arthritis.
But my crystals have proven that it goes far beyond the chemical detoxification. From an energetic point of view, the addition of magnesium sulfate dissolved in a body of water creates a static, unified, electrical field. While you relax for 20 minutes or more in the body of water you neutralize excess electrical charges in the body, thus creating a magnetic balance. In practice this means that my bath crystals can counter the effects of low-level radiation, such as VDU stress or jet lag.
Furthermore the sea salts I have added -(yes you do not have to go the Dead Sea to experience the amazing  curative effects of the water – you can purchase it in one container)- contain the same elements as blood plasma, that is: sodium, potassium and chloride, which is excellent for the skin. My detox aroma crystal formulation is rich in minerals such as sulphur, bromine, iodine, magnesium, calcium and of course the all important sodium. Do not use soap during the bath as this interferes with the beneficial action of the salts.
To make my Bath Aroma Detox exclusively unique I have added a blend of aroma oils. This is not for the purpose of absorption of the beneficial elements of the oils; it is for the stimulating effect of the oils on the body. The aroma  oils will further encourage  the perspiration therefore assist the body in the elimination process while leaving the skin soft and well protected against harmful invasion of bacteria.
How often should you use the Detox Aroma Bath Crystals?
Use the bath crystals at least once a week, you will sleep deeply after the treatment and feel refreshed apart from losing a kg or 2 during the process. Remember it is water only, but water full of potential harmful metabolic waste.
Warning: do not use the bath crystals if you are pregnant, have high blood pressure or any illness related to kidney disease." - Tessa Biagio, Essentially Tessa

I love a detox bath after a hectic gym session - sweat baby sweat! I try use these bath salts at least once a week but never more than twice a week. It truly is a sweat session of note and you feel tired afterwards, but the next morning you will wake up with so much energy!
Remember to drink water before, during and after your bath to stay hydrated!

REVIEW: Badger Sunscreen

Totally Natural Sun Care from Badger

I am a summer girl through and through - I love spending time by the pool; soaking up the rays; maybe sipping on a cocktail ;)

So I just loved this product before I even tested it - a natural sunscreen - how cool!

I know a lot of beauty & skin experts advise you to stay out of the sun because of the risk of skin cancer but Ive always been protective of my skin in the sun by applying sunscreen. I'm pedantic about my face through! I always wear a high SPF and keep it covered as much as possible! People say that freckles are cute, but I'm not a fan of mine so I try keep my face out of the sun as much as possible - plus, 'say no to wrinkles'!

A bit more about the Badger Natural Sunscreen:

Protects with Minerals, not Chemicals
Blocks Both UVB and UVA Rays – Broad Spectrum
High Ratings for Safety and Efficacy
Safe for your Whole Family
 Natural & Organic Base Ingredients
 Cruelty Free
 Safe for the Environment
 Good for Your Skin

I received the SPF 30+ unscented sunscreen - perfect for when I want good coverage during my trips to Zambia, and I plan on taking it along with me to Mozambique at the end of the year.

I'm also quite keen to buy the SPF 15 for when I want to build up a tan while still looking after my skin, the SPF 30 All Season Face Stick to cover my freckles, as well as the SPF 30 sunscreen & anti-bug repellent for Zambia.

The sunscreen is quite thick - so a little goes a long way! I enjoy that it wasn't scented, sometimes I feel a sunscreens 'fragrance' is too strong and puts your off wearing it.

There are a few different sunscreens in the range:
SPF 15 Lightly scented sunscreen
SPF 30+ Lightly scented sunscreen
SPF 30+ Unscented sunscreen
SPF 30+ Baby sunscreen
SPF 30+ Sunscreen & Anti-Bug Insect Repellent
SPF 30+ All Season Face Stick
SPF 15 Unscented Lip Balm Stick

- I definitely want to try some of these, always great to have lots of sunscreen handy!

Soak up some free and natural Vitamin D while still being protected with Badger Natural Sunscreen :)

Kriki for Shore

A Cool Concept: Kriki For Shore

So here's three things to know about me:
1) I love the ocean - I think I mention my love for the sea in every post related to the ocean, yes I am a mermaid
2) I love recycling and reusing - the name The Glam Green Girl should give that one away ;)
3) I love cricket - something that my girlfriends just dont understand about me!

So imagine when I saw that 'Kriki For Shore' was following me on twitter and I saw what they were all about! A company that re-uses waste material including plastic and bottle-tops collected from South African beaches to create beach cricket sets!

Here's a bit more information about Kriki For Shore:

" There are two different types of Kriki sets: 100% hand-made sets that focus on a message of “reusing” waste (each bat is made entirely from waste material collected in coastal communities); and moulded plastic sets made from 60% recycled plastic that aim to educate on how useful waste plastic can be. Each set includes a bat and a ball and wickets."

At R185 per set you are helping to clean up the environment; creating jobs; teaching kids to be active and to participate in sport; educating kids how important it is to recycle and re-use as well as not too litter! Plus you have something for the kids to play with during December holidays!

Pretty awesome hey!

For more information visit Kriki For Shore on Facebook or follow them on Twitter @kriki4shore. To order sets email producer1@mbongiworks.co.za

"I dont like cricket.. no no.. I LOVE it" - oh and another thing about me, I love to sing haha ;)
