Hello Health: Vitamins

Vitamins in food

I found this on a fitness blog awhile ago and wanted to share it with you as I thought it was really interesting to see what food has what vitamins in it, and what each vitamin does for your body.

Its important to get lots of Vitamin A in your body as it helps boost your immune system, hence helping you to fight off winter colds!

Hope this helps :)

GGG TIP: Foot Creams

The Glam Green Girl's Foot Cream Tip

I've decided to start a new series called "The Glam Green Girl's Tips" as a way of making your life easier, and for making better and greener choices!

My first tip has to do with foot cream! I drink a lot of water through out the day and during the night so when I go to sleep I'm always getting up to go to the bathroom. I really don't like wearing socks (only if its deathly cold) so I never used to put foot cream on as I would slide all the way to the toilet every night. But, your feet deserve to be pampered seeing as though we sometimes wear shoes that look better than they feel!

Since my foot cream was by my bed and I never used it, I forgot it was there. But then, I thought about putting it on before gym so it gave me an hour to be absorbed by my skin. I now keep my foot balm right next to my gym shoes and put it on before I put on my socks and trainers. This leaves me with soft feet and I'm no longer slipping and sliding around my room and bathroom.

Now that it's getting colder, why not put your foot cream near your boots or socks?

Hope this tip helped! Let me know what you think of this new series?

REVIEW: Dr Hauschka - Shower Balms

Dr Hauschka Rose Shower Balm

A Body wash with essential oils? Sold!
These shower balms are good for the mind; body and spirit. Soft and gentle on your skin with a divine fragrance, it makes shower time a spoiling.

Formulated with a high content of botanical oils, you don't feel the need to apply body lotion straight after your shower  With it being winter now and everyone having dry skin, these oils will be lapped up by your skin.

An important ingredient of the shower balm, is the quince seed. Quince seed helps protect the skin, boosts its ability to absorb moisture and makes the shower balms more even gentle on your skin.

I love the rose fragrance, and would definitely like to try the Almond one next! I think the Lavender Sandalwood would be great for unwinding at night and the Lemon Lemongrass a nice wake up scent for your morning shower.

Available from June 2013 - R215 for 200ml

Which one would you consider buying?

Hello Health: Getting back into routine

Motivation to get into routine

After I got back from my latest trip to Zambia at the end of April I was so ill for a few weeks. This put a damper on my gym routine and I could definitely feel it. I was so worried about getting  about getting back to the gym and if I had lost all the progress I had made.

There was only one way to find out - last week I went to do a little cardio session, and survived haha! I was so nervous that I would be starting from step 1 but my muscles responded well to be pushed again! I fell back into my routine straight away!

Last night I went to my first yoga session in a month but it felt good, and today I feel the just right amount of stiffness!

So instead of delaying it by another day by saying "oh I'll go tomorrow" rather just do it today! You will get back into it straight away and wonder why you were so worried in the first place!

Rather choose to be sore tomorrow then sorry!

Have you ever felt like I did, where you were nervous to get back into a proper gym routine?

REVIEW: Meadowsweet Bath Salts

Sore Muscle Bath Soak from Meadowsweet

I still had a bit of my voucher from Faithful to Nature that I received from family friends for my birthday left over and I'm a girl that loves her baths! Recently I've started going to the gym more often and love practising yoga, all of this however takes a toll on your body and sometimes a hot bath can make it feel better!

I fell in love with this product as soon as I used it! The scent is so fresh and leaves you feeling so invigorated!

Here are the simple ingredients:
epsom salts
bicarbonate of soda
mustard powder
eucalyptus oil
marjoram
rosemary
melissa
lemon verbena
mountain mint
eucalyptus leaves

Not only are these ingredients great for tired and sore muscles, but also help relieve sinsus! I used this bath soak every night when I was so sick to try help relieve the congestion, Im a big fan of Eucalpytus oil when you feeling a cold coming along!

It's R74 for 250ml from Faithful To Nature, definitely worth it! I will be ordering some again soon!

I will however warn you, its a grassy bath haha! You will have leaves floating around you but at least you know its good for you and not gross chemicals surrounding you!

I also ordered the Lavender Bath Salts, so relaxing!
I've become such a fan of this brand!

REVIEW: Tip Top Nails {pink}

Pink Ombre Nails with Tip Top

Hello my lovies,

{just a note: Sorry I've been so quiet these past 2 weeks - I've been so ill since my last trip to Zambia but will get back in to the swing of things again soon!}

Anyways back to business, I was sent three gorgeous shades of pink from Tip Top and since Im such a fan of the ombre trend, I decided to do a pink ombre on my nails.

Here are the colours:

(I already had number 1 and number 5 in my collection and decided they would be great to do a pink ombre with the three new colours (numbers 2-4)  I received)

1. Pot-o-Berries
2. Let Me Be
3. Popsicle
4. Marshmellow Bunny
5. Rocky Road

What you guys think of this look? On trend and toxin-free, does it get better than that?

I'm loving the 'Let Me Be' colour (number 2) - which one is your favourite?

Would you do an ombre manicure?

ZAMBIA: April 2013 [Round 2]

Zambia - End of April

I know what you are thinking, "what a little brat!" - I mean who gets to go to Zambia twice in one month!
meeeeeeeeeeee ;)

I was thrilled to hear that I could go along with my dad and had such a great time with him! It was a short trip - 2 nights in Lusaka and 2 nights down at the Zambezi River but we made the most of every minute!

I was lucky enough to go down to the Zambian National Park again this time! It's so beautiful there and because it is so controlled, there are hardly any other boats down there - just you and beautiful nature!

Here are a few snaps from my trip (click here to see all my other Zambian trips)

The beautiful scenery - isn't it just magnificent down at the river?

Magical sunset over the Zambezi River

Managed to capture these amazing dragonflies!

Even though we were down at the river for a mere 48 hours, it was one of the best fishing weekends for us! My dad (rocking his Green Day t-shirt) caught the first tiger fish and one of the biggest for the weekend, Mick came in second and managed to catch two huge ones!

I finally caught a tiger fish (not that it took like 4 years) , a whole whooping 25 grams ;)

But on our last day I caught a bigger one

Don't worry my fellow eco-warriors, on the Zambian side of the river its 'catch and release' so no tiger fish were harmed in the making of this blog post ;)

The earliest I've woken up in a while, caught the sunrise before heading down to the National Park

Thanks for letting me share my love of Zambia with you - and thanks to my dad for taking me with :)

Hopefully I can share another post with you soon!

REVIEW: AYA Cosmetics - Lipsticks

Bare Basics Lipstick Collection by AYA Cosmetics

I was thrilled when Elizabeth, CEO of AYA Cosmetics, emailed me to say she had come across my blog and loved it! I was even more thrilled when she asked if I was willing to test out some of her lipsticks from her newly launched range!

I had never tested 'natural' lipsticks as I find natural make up to be so expensive ( I prefer saving that money for natural skincare) but imagine my delight when I found out how reasonably priced these lipsticks were - its about $16.95 (Australian Dollars) so when I worked it out at the current exchange rate of $1=R9.24, these beauties sell for about R157. Not too bad right?

{Let me tell you why they are worth it}

From the Glam side:
they are creamy; the colour lasts and they have a subtle sweet scent

From the Green side:
They are vegan; lead-free; cruelty-free; packaged in all recyclable materials - "Our products are made without nasty additives: parabens, propylene or butylene glycol, sodium lauryl sulfates, pesticides, phthalates, artificial dyes or synthetic fragrances. We also avoid compromising the environment by using packaging derived from post-consumer, recycled and bio-degradable materials. This means that all of our packaging is eco-friendly – from the sleekly designed box containing the product, to the packing and wrapping materials used for its delivery to your doorstep." AYA website

The Colours:

1. The Particular Pink is perfect for when Im having one of my Barbie days ;)
2. The Just Peachy is great when you want to add a bit of colour, I love that its not to orange, not too pink but the perfect shade of peach.
3 .The In The Buff shade is what I was mostly complimented on, perhaps as it is closest to my natural shade
4. The Naturally Nude is great for when you want to focus on your eyes, example: if you are rocking the smokey eye look

Thank you so much Elizabeth for letting me test out these great shades!
If you are interested in them - check out the AYA Cosmetics website to see how you can get your hands on these Glam and Green lipsticks!

Aaaaand I'm just too excited not to share this with you - I will be running a giveaway where you could win your own Bare Basics Lipstick from AYA Cosmetics in May! Look out for that exciting competition soon!
