NOTE: Day 151 of 365

Chapter 5
Day 151 of 365

Hi there beautiful!

Today marks the last day of May and tomorrow we head to the halfway mark for the year already! As I've mentioned in every "Day xx of 365" post, this is all about reflecting on what happened during the month.

May was a challenging month for me if I could put it that way. As a few of you know, I injured my leg while on a trip to Zambia at the beginning of March and after 2 months it just wasn't getting better. May consisted of more doctor visits, a sonar and even an MRI and it turned out that I damaged the one ligament by my knee. I luckily don't have to have surgery and instead had 2 cortisone injections but I didn't react very well to them and ended up having to use crutches for a few days. I don't want to jinx anything, but my leg has seemed to be getting better the past 5 days *touch wood* (yes I am very superstitious haha).

With all this drama with my leg I so afraid I wouldn't be able to perform my projects for Miss Earth and I had to delay a few things which I'm trying to catch up now on so it's been a super busy two weeks. I also unfortunately can no longer go to Livingstone, Zambia at the end of June to plant trees with Greenpop as the winner of the Tree-illonaire blogger competiton because of concerns over my leg. But I'll hopefully be able to join next year and at least I know 28 trees will be planted because of the awesome people that supported me in the competition!

But on a happier note, on Wednesday I went to start a vegetable garden at a nursery school in Pretoria. It was so great to work with the little ones! You can read all about it here. You can also read about my Easter donation I had in Zambia in April. I have a room in my house that is chockablock FULL of donations for the Jacaranda Children's Home - thank you to everyone that has donated something, I'm overwhelmed by your kindness! I can't wait for my other projects next week, follow my personal twitter account to stay up to date with what I'm busy with. For more information on the projects I'm busy with, check out this link.

Did you manage to check out my blog's revamp? The lovely Chicara from Lipgloss Kisses not only has a beautiful blog, but is also a talented web designer! PS: I wrote a guest review on a hair oil for her blog- go check it out :)

While May has been busy to say the least and I've been trying to say yes to all that comes my way as I said I would in my YOLO/Taking Chances post I sometimes have to stop and remind myself that while I can do anything, I can't do everything.

How was May for you? Good? Bad? Average? Tell me all about it - gush, vent, whatever ;)

Here is to a rocking June that is already promising to be a goodie!

Can I get a "amen"?

Love always, The Glam Green Girl xXx

NOTE: Day 120 of 365

Day 120
Chapter 4

Hi everyone,

Wow April has been an incredible journey and if it's any indication of what's to come, I say "bring it on!".At the beginning of the month I attended the launch of the darling brand 27Pinkx at the utterly fabulous Saxon Hotel in Johannesburg. This cruelty free brand is all about make up storage, make up and all things pink!

And in terms of super exciting news, about two weeks ago I found out I had made it to the next round of Miss Earth South Africa and have qualified as a semi-finalist in the programme. I'm so excited to start my journey as an environmental advocate and help spread the Miss Earth LOVE!

I spent the Easter weekend in Zambia and you can read more about that here - it really was a great trip (as usual!).

And some more exciting news: I won  Greenpop's blogger competition of 'Who Wants To Be a Tree-illoniare' as the blogger who managed to raise the most trees! A huge THANK YOU to everyone that supported me and donated to the awesome "Trees for Zambia" cause! You rock! I'm so excited to be heading up to Livingstone at the end of June as I've never been there before and I'll get to plant trees; paint murals; educate kids and make lots of new friends - plus I'll get to go see The Victoria Falls which I'm totally freaking out with excitement about! Please join if you can! You can read more about "Trees for Zambia" here

I started these "Day xx of 365" posts as a way of looking back on what's been accomplished in the month and as a way of my readers reflecting on whether they are sticking to their 2014 resolutions or not- so I'd love to know how April was for you? Anything exciting happen? Did you manage to challenge yourself and go for one of your goals?

Looking forward to hearing from you!

GREENPOP: Tree Memories

Greenpop Part 3:
My Favourite Tree Memories

Hi everyone!

So part of this Greenpop challenge is not only about raising trees for the awesome "Trees for Zambia" project - but part of it is also about reflecting on why trees are so important. Last week I posted a cool infographic that I found on Pinterest filled with interesting tree facts and this week it's all about my favourite tree memory. PS: every time I type memory I have to erase the one m *surname problems haha*

If I have to think back on my childhood, I wouldn't say there were any memories of trees that come to mind. I'm a clumsy girl, those of you that know me know that I'm usually tearing something; breaking something or bruising something (I'm currently writing this with a torn muscle and damaged ligament in my leg after my last trip to Zambia haha). So anyways, lets just say I wasn't exactly the tree climbing type of kid.

My favourite tree related memory comes from Easter 2012 in Zambia, along the Zambezi River. For the past three years, my family & our close family friends go to Zambia to celebrate Easter. The one year we decided that we were going to stop along the River and have a braai under this large tree. So there is where is gets real for me. I watch a lot of Animal Planet, and I mean A LOT so when I first got to the 'tree' I had a total panic attack cause all I could think of was the amount of snakes that were going to fall on me and yes I can totally hear you laughing at me right now! But I actually ended up having the best time and we returned a few times after that for a few more braais each time I was in Zambia. Unfortunately the piece of land that this huge tree is on is now private property so we have to find a new braai spot.

This tree is so incredible because we all sit under it with our camping chairs, take a little snooze in the shade and eat delicious food. However we weren't the only ones that used to eat there, it was a elephant hot spot! The one time we even had to make a quick escape back to the boat as a herd was coming in to dine at their local restaurant!

This was my view from under the tree - The Zambezi River and a beautiful tree, what more do you need?

Trees are not only a vital part of our environment and our existence but it's so amazing to be able to see how nature interacts with trees, how we as humans attach certain memories to trees and how it can create a smile on your face each time you pass it.

To help me create some more tree memories for myself and for Zambia, please donate to the super cool "Trees For Zambia" project. R100 buys you a tree but any donation is very much welcome!

What's your favourite tree memory?

NOTE: Day 90 of 365

Chapter 3
Day 90

Hi everyone,

Ok how quickly did this month go by? I think it's because March was such a busy month for me that I'm sitting here and feeling like I just typed the last "Day xx of 365" post yesterday!

March was a much better month for me than February was! I was lucky enough to spend 9 incredible days in Zambia alongside the Zambezi River, I unfortunately fell while I was in Zambia and tore the muscle in my leg off the bone (eeeew I know!) so I'm waiting for that to heal so I can put on my dancing shoes again. I attended a friend's Kitchen Tea, which is such a special event to share in a friends life. I went away with a group of friends for a sneaky little weekend at Roodeplaat dam and I've spent a lot of time with friends that mean the world to me.

In terms of The Glam Green Girl, March was such a great month! I got to attend the Elle Beauty Awards and sat there with big eyes while in awe of the fabulous Jackie Burger. I got my domain registered (Thanks again Chicara) after nearly 3 years of blogging haha. I wrote a guest blog post for My Beauty Bunny on South African beauty companies that are cruelty free. Last but not least, I'm currently taking part in a very exciting competition by Greenpop, I'm hoping you'll support me by buying a tree? You can read more about it and donate here *a BIG thank you to those that have already donated* ps: any amount is welcome, not matter how big or how small - it all counts!

How was your March? I wanna hear all about it? Did you achieve any of your goals for the month? Tell me, I love to hear for you all!

Tomorrow is April and I hope it will be an incredible month for all of you!

GREENPOP: Who Wants To Be a Tree-llionaire?

Trees For Zambia: Part 1

Hello my eco bunnies,

Boy oh boy am I excited to write this post! 2 weeks ago I was contacted by Greenpop to take part in a really cool competition. Until the 18th of April, I will be competing against other Joburg bloggers to see who can raise the most trees for Greenpop's project called Trees For Zambia.

So what is Trees For Zambia all about? It's Greenpop's way of combating against the vast amount of deforestation that takes place in Zambia. So many of the trees are cut down for charcoal and many trees are cut down because of bad land management, burning farming methods and poorly maintained logging. Often when I'm driving from Lusaka through the escarpment down to the Zambezi River there are locals selling charcoal all alongside the road, sometimes every 500m! Think how many trees are being chopped down for that!

I wanted to take part in this project because Zambia has a very big place in my heart! Here are some of my posts about my trips to Zambia.  I've always wanted to volunteer for Trees For Zambia but I either went to Zambia one month before the event or one month after, but if I win this competition I get to go with as a media partner!

Trees for Zambia is pretty cool as it's a huge festival where local and international volunteers all meet up in Livingstone, Zambia to plant 3500 trees in 3 weeks!

So how can you help me and buy some trees? You can head over to my profile page on GivenGain and click on my Who Wants To Be a Tree-llionaire project, a few clicks and VoilĂ ! You've just bought a tree! A R100 well spent!

Greenpop will even send you the GPS co-ordinates of the tree so you can see where it's been planted and even visit it one day!

Apart from helping the environment, another bonus of buying a tree from me is that you will be entered into a draw to win a stay at Umlani Lodge! How cool is that?

“The best time to plant a tree is twenty years ago. The second best time is now.” -Anonymous

Please help me plant some beautiful trees in Zambia!
