Hello Health: Green Tea

The Benefits of Green Tea

I was never a fan of green tea but since Ive become more conscious of my health I decided to give it a try again. For the first few cups, I would let the tea cool down and then drink it as quickly as possible, I could at least say "yes I had my cup of green tea today" - after about the third cup, I decided "hey this isnt so bad".

I then took my adventure with green tea further and tried green tea with mint - can anyone say refreshing! Perfect for a summers day!

Keen to jump on the Green Tea wagon? Here are a few benefits, you are most likely to go make a cup after reading this post ;)

Im pretty sure most of us enjoy the 'speeds up your metabolism' benefit ;)

Benefits of Strawberries

Hello Health - Strawberries

As the season of summer has approached (even though it's been chilly and rainy), its a great time to start including more fruits into your diet. Im starting a new segment called Hello Health which will have some easy tips to incoroprate healthier choices.

I decided to start off with strawberries, everybody loves them and these juicy goodies are packed with so many health benefits.

Strawberry benefits:

- Packed with Vitamin C, which is a great immune booster
- Full of antioxidants, antoxidants are proven to help prevent cancer
- Vitamin C is vital to the production of collagen, keeping wrinkles at bay
- Strawberries help fight bad cholestrol
- The antioxidants and phytochemicals found in strawberries may also help to reduce inflammation of the joints
 - Strawberries regulate blood pressure
- They are a source of fibre
- Strawberries are low calories, fat free and low in sodium.
- Strawberries are important for pre-natal health as they are a source of folate.

All these amazing benefits from something so delicious! While I was researching the benefits of strawberries I came across a recipe for an acne-fighting masque from Ecouterre

Strawberry Scrub:

1/2 cup of strawberries
1 Tablespoon of honey
1 Teaspoon of Olive Oil
few drops of lemon juice
Mix it all together and apply to face - leave on for 15 minutes
*Strawberries are a source of salicylic acid which is found in a lot of anti-ance products

REVIEW: Baobab Oil & A Chance To Win

Baobab Oil : Review and Competition

From my Zambian posts (August trip & September trip), I'm a huge fan of the Baobab Tree - such a beautiful and majestic tree!

Well now I have a peace of the beautiful tree at home in the form of organic baobab oil!

I didn't really know much about baobab oil so I was excited when I received some so I could learn more about it.

Here's what its all about:

Baobab Oil is known for:                                                    Baobab Oil Contains:
- skin softening                                                                   - Vitamin D
- skin restructuring                                                              - Palmitic Acid
-quick absorption                                                                - Oleic Acid
-improvement of skin elasticity                                            - Linoleic Acid
- regeneration of cells                                                         - Omega 3,6 & 9
- fatty acids in the oil make skin healthier                           - fatty acids
- moisturising for your skin and hair

Baobab Oil can be used as a mosituriser and it can also be added to your bath; your hair conditioner; facial creams and body lotions.
During my latest trip to Zambia I was devoured by mosquitoes and I have a terrible habit of scratching the mozzie bites open without even realising it (gross I know) so I had little sores all over my feet (even more gross, I know) that weren't healing. For the past 10 days Ive been applying the baobab oil to my feet every night and I can definitely see an improvement! Sorry I wanted to post photos but I just couldnt (a weird phobia when it comes to my feet). I loved that this oil is absorbed quickly by your skin, by the time I get into bed it doesnt leave an oily mess.

Sounds like a winner right? Well, here's your chance to win as well!!!

The Cove

An Update on The Cove

When the movie 'The Cove' came out I was apprehensive about watching it, but the one day I was at home and it came on one of the movie channels so I thought I should just see what its all about... my heart broke, the tears flowed and I could not get over the little humanity those people who so cruelly killed those innocent animals had.

I straight away signed the petition, I informed my friends and family about it and urged them to sign the petition and spread the word about the what was happening in the small town of Taiji, Japan in a small cove.

I follow "The Cove's" social media accounts and when I saw they had posted this photo below, I was so happy!

So from 2000 dolphins to 800 (which is still a terrible number) - a round of high fives to everyone that has been a part of trying to stop this tragedy that occurs annually in Taiji.

I've always loved dolphins - maybe it's because I feel I should have been a mermaid. When I was 8 years old we had to do a project on our favourite animal ~ naturally I chose the dolphin. I think that's another reason why I was so affected by the movie.

I cant even post the photos of what happens at Taiji as they are just too disturbing - but if you want to know more about what The Cove is about click here for the website.

I wear this dolphin link on my nomination bracelet as a way of support *and because I love them*

Who could ever harm such beautiful creatures?

Friends, please sign the petition - every bit of effort helps!!!!

ZAMBIA - September 2012

A weekend in Zambia (27/09 - 01/10)

The picture above pretty much explains how my dad and I feel - that's why we went on another sneaky little trip up to the Zambezi River again.

I always have such a magical time when I'm there and this time was no different. In fact, I had even more adventures this time from attending an art expo to going on a game drive. I hope you enjoy the photos as they are a little piece of Zambia I get to take home with me each time.

The photos above are just a few from a wildlife art expo that I unexpectedly attended while spending one night in Lusaka before heading down to the Zambezi River the next day. A lot of the paintings, including some by the talented David Shepherd, were to be auctioned off at the ball that was happening on the weekend. There was also art work by school kids on display, I was so happy to see that they kids are fighting for their planet and on a 'green' thinking level. You could also make donations to the Elephant Orphanage Project were they rescue and rehabilitate orphaned elephants.

It's so incredible being able to be so close to these majestic animals - what a blessing!

A few snapshots of the beauty of Zambia and what you will find

My dad and a friend who lives in Zambia, Mick, surprised me with a stay at Kasaka River Lodge on the Saturday night! So while they were out fishing I decided to go on a game drive - its not everyday you get to say you went on a game drive in the Lower Zambezi National Park! I didnt see much game (saw more while on the river) but I did drive past my dad and Mick while they were fishing haha.

Whenever I travel down to the river, I always have a 'check list' of what I want to see - last time it was crocodiles and boy-oh-boy did I see many (click here for my post about my previous trip) but this time I was determined to see lions. When I didnt get to see any on my game drive I had given up hope but the next day we spotted 6 young males right on the bank on the river - how amaing!!!

Apart from being on the magificent Zambezi River or being surrounded by the most beautiful wildlife, Zambia is a special place because its all about being with the most amazing people who put the biggest smiles on your face - "a bad day fishing is better than a good day of work".

Well I hope you guys enjoyed this post as I shared my Zambian experience - hmmm maybe I can pull another little sneaky weekend soon *hint hint Dad ;)*

I would love to hear your thoughts! Comment below or tweet me
