[ECO]: Easy Ways To Go Green in 2016

With 2016  rocking and rolling for everyone already, what's a better time to start being green than now?

While going green is a process, these are a few easy steps you can take on your journey of being more eco-friendly.

Switch your light bulbs to energy saving Compact fluorescent lightbulbs - they use about one 1/3 of electricity and last 10 times longer.

♥ Switch off wall sockets when not in use as they draw a lot of "phantom/vampire" energy while not in use.

♥ Stepping away from your computer for more than 20 minutes? Switch it to "sleep mode" and make sure to power off at the end of the day.

♥ Switch off the tap while brushing your teeth and make sure to have leaking taps fixed.

♥ Plant a tree

♥Start your own vegetable garden

♥  Print on both sides of paper and try go as electronic as possible in terms of documents etc

♥ When buying new beauty products, do your research to find out whether they are cruelty-free or not

♥ Buy local foods, this provides jobs for your community and saves on transport costs.

♥ RECYCLE - REUSE - REDUCE

[ECO]: Greening Your Office

Eco Tips for The Workplace

Being green in your home is one thing, but carrying it through to your workplace is fantastic! How does one go about greening your office? Well here are a few tips I've put together for you:

1) At the offices I currently work at, we've implemented a recycling system so we all sort our trash into paper; plastic; tin and glass and this gets picked up once a week. Try google companies that will come pick up your recycling for you, or where you can drop it off.

2) Need to print out documents? We use scrap paper (paper that's already been printed on the one side). Better yet though, try go as digital as possible.

3) Unfortunately, some documents still need to be printed out in this digital day and age, so try make sure the paper you're buying is recycled paper.

4) Keep files on computer (make sure to back it up though) instead of file cabinets.

5) When using the copier/printer, use it on draft mode or 'eco' mode as some new copiers have. You'll save on ink and try print on both sides.

6) Power down. Unplug your chargers when they are not being used, switch off unnecessary lights and when leaving work make sure your computer has shut down and is not just on 'sleep mode'.

7) Use compact fluorescent bulbs. This uses less electricity. Also try and use as much natural light as possible. This can even be achieved by having light coloured decor which helps reflect light.

8) Find out who stays in your area and carpool to work - your petrol tank will be much happier!

9) Green you office with small indigenous plants, helps emit oxygen into the air and gives the office a friendlier appeal.

10) Inquire about using green cleaning products in the bathrooms and kitchens.

Hope these tips have helped? Let me know if you have any great eco tips for the office?

[ECO]: Paper Recycling

Why Should We Recycle Paper?

Image: Unsplash

Those that have been reading my blog for a while now, know that I have an obsession when it comes to recycling. I can become quite hectic over it but I feel in terms of the environment, it's a good obsession to have. Over the next few weeks I'll be chatting more about recycling but today's post features a few facts on paper recycling.

While paper is pretty much a necessity in our everyday lives, we're luckily switching over to the electronic side of things but we still use so much paper everyday, and while it may be essential, the trees that are being cut down for it are far more essential.

Did you know that recycling one tonne of paper can save the following?
17 Trees
3.3 cubic yards of landfill space
9 barrels of oil
4000 kilowatts of energy
7000 gallons of water

So how can you play your part?

1) Change to electronic billing - this saves all those bills being thrown in the bin.

2) Need to print something out? Try use both sides of the page.

3) Keep a paper recycling bin right next to the photocopier and fax machine at the office, you'll be surprised how quickly it will fill up.

4) Subscribe to your favourite magazine or newspaper digitally.

5) Buy recycled paper. Using old paper to make new paper uses a lot less energy.

6) Visit Treevolution to find out where you can take your paper recycling to or if it can be collected from your house.

Need any help with recycling? Drop me a message - I'd love to help, like I've said, it's a passion!

[REVIEW]: Milk & Honey Bath Soak

Earth Sap - Milk & Honey Bath Soak

Nothing beats a relaxing bath after a long day right? I always add a little oil or a few scoops of bath salts to add to the indulgence of relaxing in a hot bath tub. This bath soak from Earth Sap is the latest next to my bath.

With a milk and honey scent that smells so good, these sea salts help provide your skin with nourishment and the added milk and honey serve as a natural source of vitamins. Plus, this soak is utterly relaxing.

Made from a handful of simple ingredients such as sea salt; milk; honey; peppermint; lemon; orange; lavender; Epsom salts and eucalyptus oil, a few scoops of this indulgent bath soak will add bliss to your bath time.

Its a big tub (450ml) and it is recyclable, plus you can definitely find ways to reuse this tub afterwards I'm sure. Along with smelling great, it also leaves your skin feeling great. Sometimes after using a bath soak, my skin feels so dry afterwards so luckily this wasn't the case after using these bath salts.

When it comes to wine, I do enjoy a glass of Chenin Blanc or Chardonnay and since I live in South Africa, we have so many fantastic locally produced wines. But what do I do with the bottle afterwards? I usually throw it away in my glass recycling bin but here's another cool idea - make upcycled drinking glasses!

Hands up if you love wine!

I found these cute ideas of how to reuse glass on Pinterest and wanted to share them with you. Glass is amazing because it is 100% recyclable but it can also be reused in so many different ways. Put your creative thinking cap on before you throw away that wine bottle, and by throw away, I obviously mean in the recycling bin.

I'm thinking of doing a post where I show you how I've reused items in my house - what do you think, would you be interested in that?

REVIEW: Alima Pure

Alima Pure
Natural Make-Up

I was recently invited to try out some of the Alima Pure mineral make up to see what I thought about it. I won't lie to you, I've always been a bit apprehensive when it comes to natural make up. Firstly when you've found the foundation that works for you, it's hard to try something else. Plus, natural make up can be really expensive. But I promised myself I would go in with an open mind as mineral make up is something I'd like to one day switch over to.

Made from mineral pigments which offer natural sun protection, anti-inflammatory benefits and have subtle reflective properties, this make up range is free of irritants and preservatives and contains no additives, fillers or fragrances!

With over 240 shades and colours, you're bound to find something that suits you!

I was quite impressed that you could first use a colour correcting powder before applying your mineral foundation

With so many shades, you can be certain you will find one to suit your skin tone

Alima has such amazingly soft make up brushes

Reasons why Alima Pure is Glam and Green?

The brand is cruelty free and is Leaping Bunny certified
The packaging is 100% recyclable
They give back a percentage of their profits through 1% For The Planet
They offset 100% of their corporate carbons emissions through contributions to carbonfung.org
Alima Pure make up has no parabens; no talc; no chemicals; no gluten; no dyes and no nanoparticles

Here are a few of the products I'm adding to my wish list:

This is the perfect to give my cheeks a bit of colour

This Kitten Brush can be used for your finishing powder, blush, bronzer etc

I loved this eyeshadow but I would use it as my highlighter for just below my brows and just above my cheek bones

To view more of the products and to get more information, have a look at the Thankful Planet/ Alima Pure South Africa Facebook page

Have you tried any mineral make up? I'd love to hear your thoughts on it!
