[BEAUTY]: Summer Hair Care

Products I'm Currently Using This Summer

Summer time for me, means spending most of my days in the swimming pool pretending to be a mermaid, or frolicking in the waves of the ocean if I'm lucky enough to be at the coast during the festive season.

While I will always love being in the water, the chlorine from swimming pools and the salt from the ocean, takes a toll on your hair.

Needless to say, my usual OCD routine with my hair care has cranked up another notch to stop my hair from drying out. This means I'm switching between different hair masks and have been doing oil treatments more often.

I've reviewed these treatments before so some are almost finishing and some I had two of so you can read more about each one on the links:

I like to apply this from roots, yes that's right, roots to tips and then sleep with it in. This gives my hair that extra nourishment it needs and allows it to soak in the oils from this premium oil.

This is one of my favourite masks. It smells heavenly and works wonders at revitalising my hair.

Davines is one of my top hair care brands that is green and glam and while I only use this mask now and then as it's quite 'heavy' on my hair, it's great for hydrating and strengthening your hair.

While this is not a mask, it's a definite treatment for your hair in my opinion. You need to leave it on for a few minutes and less is more when it comes to this conditioner.

How do you keep your locks shiny and healthy during summer?

[REVIEW]: Mio Skincare The A Cream

The A Cream - Firming Active Body Cream from Mio Skincare

Now that we're into the swing of summer, this means more time by the pool and having braai's with friends, it also means wanting your skin to look it's best in that cute little jumpsuit you just bought.

This firming cream contains organic shea butter; organic avocardo oil; organic sweet almond oil; hyaluronic acid as well organic coconut oil and blueberry seed oil. What does this mean? Well for starters, it's super moisturising! Secondly, by including these ingredients, you're layering in some serious vitamins and anti-oxidants into your skin!

This cream not only contains amazing properties but it's also free from parabens, petrolatum, synthetic fragrance, colorants, xenoestrogens, PEGs, glycols and phthalates.

Another bonus about this A Cream? It can even be used as an after-sun as it leaves your skin with natural cooling effect! Also, the best when it's a scorcher of a summers evening.

Even though most of us suffer from dry-skin in the winter; I've had some dry patches on my arms lately so I've been applying this cream straight after I've showered as it locks in extra moisture!

This A Cream retails for R570 - you can phone Poise Brands (011 033 0500) for more contacts on stockists.

While I've been using my A Cream daily, I've just started using the Mio Skin Tight Tightening Body Serum, so I'll let you know about that soon!

ps: I'm giving away a Mio product next week so make sure to keep checking back on the blog ;)

[REVIEW]: LUSH Angels on Bare Skin

Facial and Body Cleanser - Angels on Bare Skin from LUSH

Angels on you skin, hmmm I wonder what would that feel like? Similar to using Rose Oil & Lavender Oil on your skin? Pretty sure it would be close to using Angels on Bare Skin from LUSH.

Made from ground almonds; lavender oil; kaolin clay; rose oil; lavender flowers and more - this facial cleanser (which can also be used on your body) is gentle on your skin yet has an exfoliating effect thanks to the ground almonds.

It reminds me a lot of the Balm Balm Hibiscus Face Mask (I've chatted about it in this video). This is because you need to mix it with a little bit of water to create a paste. You only need to use a tiny bit which is great because you obviously want to keep your LUSH products for as long as possible ;)

Soft, gentle and caring - it's a great cleanser for all types of skin!

This cleanser retails for R160.00 for 100g

Have you tried this LUSH cleanser yet?

This Lip Balm has less of a balmy consistency and is more like a lip cream in my opinion. It's easy to pop in your handbag but I prefer to use it at night. This organic Lip Balm retails for R139.00 and can be bought here

Perfect for those with scars and stretch marks, this Organic Tissue Oil contains Organic Jojoba oil which helps maintain and restore your skins elasticity, moisture and tone. A personal favourite of mine from this range, the Hand & Body Moisturising Lotion contains Orange Peel Oil which hydrates your skin but isn't too rich. It also contains Organic Kalahari Melon seed oil which moisturises, regenerates and restructures skin.

This lotion retails for R149.00 (100ml) and can be bought here

[REVIEW]: Beaucience Night Time Routine

Night Nourishing Cream & Eye Lifting Gel from Beaucience

In August, I reviewed two Beaucience products and mentioned to you guys that I wasn't the biggest fan of their cleansing gel and that the eye make up remover wasn't going to exactly be on the top of my 'must buy' list but I've added two new Beaucience products to my night time routine and must admit that I'm impressed!

Beaucience, is a proudly South African professional skin care brand that focuses on natural and organic ingredients and uses South African ingredients where possible, environmentally friendly packaging, recyclable glass and bio-degradable plastic. Yay for that!

I'm usually a bit hesitant when it comes to night creams as they are sometimes to rich for my skin, but this one seems to be agreeing with my skin. Made from Avocado oil, Marula oil, Hibiscus oil, Sunflower oil, Evening Primrose oil and Green Tea oil, this luxurious cream helps to rejuvenate your skin and keeps it nourished. I apply a small amount each evening and like I mentioned, it's working well for my skin.

This Night Nourishing Cream retails for R355.

This Eye Lifting Gel is amazing! It was the first thing I packed for the wedding I attended on the weekend. It's a hydrating gel that can be applied both mornings and evenings and helps repair and protect the delicate skin around your eyes. If you are like me and get those bags under your eyes from not sleeping well or allergies, this gel is what you need!

This Eye Lifting Gel retails for R480.

You can find out more information about the brand and their other products on their website.

[REVIEW]: Human + Kind Skincare

BB Cream and Day & Night Cream from Human + Kind Skincare

Before I tell you about the two Human + Kind skincare products I reviewed, let me tell you about the brand first. Human + Kind is a natural skincare brand from Ireland. They are all for multi-tasking products that contain no nasty ingredients as they are chemically free and a very environmentally conscious brand. They are also cruelty free which I just love

Can we all take a minute to appreciate the amazing packaging that this brand offers? It's so eye-catching and fun!

The product that I had my eye on the most from Human + Kind was the BB Cream in Light to Medium. This BB Cream does everything it states it will - it helps to firm, hydrate, conceal, illuminate and even out skin tone. I found that it gives great coverage and keeps your skin hydrated through out the day (I think this is due to the aloe vera it contains). It has a creamy consistency and feels so light on your skin. Use your fingers; a sponge or a brush to apply and you're set for the day! This product retails for R254,99 at Wellness Warehouse.

I was actually pleasantly surprised when it came to this Day & Night Cream. In my mind I was thinking "If it can be used in the day, won't it be too light for my night time routine and if it can be used at night, won't it be too heavy for the day?". Like I mentioned, I was pleasantly surprised by how well this cream works both day and night. Thanks to the active ingredient of Avocado Oil, which is packed with vitamins, you skin is nourished and locks in nutrients. It works for both your morning and evening skincare routine as it's light and not greasy yet still very hydrating. This cream retails for R249,99 from Wellness Warehouse .

A brand that looks after the planet while looking after your skin, is definitely high in my books! What do you think?

[REVIEW]: Dr Hauschka Med Cream

Acute Care Potentilla from Dr Hauschka Med

Around April/May, I started to notice a few bumps on my forearm, sort of like tiny whiteheads. I didn't think anything of it until a few weeks later when it started itching; going red and broke out in sort of a rash. I tweeted this picture (gross I know) to ask some of my followers if they had any idea what it was? I'm still not 100% sure if it is eczema or a stress spot but I had tried all sorts of natural remedies to try soothe my skin.

About 6 weeks after I post that photo, I got a press drop from Dr Hauschka telling me about their new product - I took it as a sign that I was meant to use the cream on my arm.

Before I tell you more about the cream, let me first tell you that you can't even tell where that patch was on my arm! No lies!

So what is this Acute Care Potentilla Cream? Well it's specifically formulated to give relief to skin that is prone to atopic dermatitis. It's free of perfumes so it won't agitate skin. It contains medical herbs such as Rosemary Leaf Extract as well as Sesame Seed Oil; Jojoba Seed Oil as well Shea Butter which helps nourish and hydrate the affected skin areas.

This product retails for R377.00 which I know is pricey but if you're like me and nothing seemed to help, try give this product a go!

Have you suffered from eczema or stress patches? What do you use to help it?

[REVIEW]: Africology Body Range

Look Good & Feel Good with Africology

Africology is a South African brand that is natural; eco-friendly and holistic. It's a brand that I've heard lots about but only recently tried their products out. With summer around the corner, they sent me these products to help me look good and feel good. I enjoy the fact that Africology only uses natural ingredients that balance with your body bringing a holistic approach to your skincare. Plus, they are local!

This Slimming Detox Cream contains a blend of seaweed; ivy; horsetail; queen-meadow and biting clematis which apparently helps with the slimming and firming action of the cream. It also contains the essential oils of Juiper; Rosemary and Lemon Verbena, which creates a scent that makes you feel like you are in a spa environment. Caffeine and guarana extract help trigger your cells to burn fat.

I expected this detox cream to have a body butter consistency but it's a light cream that can be used both day and night. I prefer to use it at night after body brushing.

This product retails for R320.00

A natural shimmer in a body balm? This is created by mica minerals that create a natural shimmer and make you feel like you want to go head to a beach party! While this Renewal Body Glow Balm intensely hydrates your skin and gives you a glow with the shimmer, it's an everyday product in my books. I like to use a body balm when I got to bed so I can let my skin soak it up but the shimmer in this balms puts me off from doing that. Having said that though, now that the nights are getting longer, it's great for the summer parties! Plus, it has a divine floral scent!

This product retails for R500.00

For more information or to find out about their spas, go pop over to their website!

Which Africology products have you tried? I've heard great things about their serums!

[REVIEW]: LUSH Shower Jelly

Sweetie Pie Shower Jelly from LUSH

With scents of blackcurrant; cherries and bergamont essential oils, this shower jelly smells like heaven. Maybe it is because I have an extreme love for cherries that I enjoy this scent so much but this fruity; wobbly; dark purple shower jelly is a love affair for your nose in a tub. A tub which is recycled by the way!  Chicara from Lipgloss Kisses was the first one to introduce me to this Shower Jelly and has a great post on it here. We were at the opening of the Lush store in Gauteng when she convinced me to buy it, one whiff of the Sweetie Pie scent and I was sold.

Another reason why I love it? It has shimmer! Yes, shimmer! Well techincally it's called snowflake lustre which is usually used for cake decorations. Nevertheless, it sparkles and I like that!

So what is a Shower Jelly? Well it's wobbly yet still a bit firm, you can use it as a whole piece or cut it up into small pieces. You can even freeze it to make it firmer but I haven't tried that yet. The label describes it as a combination of a soap bar and a shower gel resulting in a jelly. I cut a small piece from the whole jelly and rub it into my loofah resulting in a foamy cherry scented body wash.

What are my final thoughts on this product? Would I buy it again? If I had to make a decision based on a scent, then yes, but I think there are other shower gels from Lush I want to try first before I repurchase this Shower Jelly.

This Sweetie Pie Shower Jelly is R75.00 for 100g and you can purchase it online here.

ps: have you seen my YouTube video on my first impressions of LUSH?

Have you tried a LUSH shower jelly yet? Any suggestions for a shower gel I should try from LUSH?

[REVIEW]: Beaucience Products

Beaucience Cleanser and Eye Make Up Remover

Beaucience, a natural and cruelty free brand which I haven’t tested before popped up on my beauty desk and I was eager to test it out. Their products contain Organic certified oils; organic certified extracts, essential oils and plant based ingredients.

First off, lets start with the Hydrating Cleansing Gel. I’m not the biggest fan of this cleanser because I felt it striped my skin too much but here’s the reason why: this cleanser which contains Witch Hazel Extract( which is often used in toners to help balance skins) is ideal for someone who has oily skin. I have normal skin so it had the opposite effect of hydrating my skin as intended.
200ml for R218.00

The Gentle Eye Make Up Remover is in my good books though. This is because I have such sensitive eyes and found no reaction to this cleanser! It’s perfect for taking off day make up but it’s not the best at taking off a dark smokey eye. It contains Aloe Vera so it helps soothe the eye area and like I said, it worked well for my everyday make up.
125ml for R155.00

Beaucience is available at select salons and spas, Spree and www.beaucience.co.za

[REVIEW]: Esse Deep Moisturiser

Winter Skin Treat with Esse Deep Moisturiser

Winter time here in Pretoria usually means dry skin which leads to thick, rich mositurisers being a treat for our skin.

This Deep Moisturiser from Esse helps hydrate your skin and keeps your skins levels balanced. It contains Ylang Ylang which helps balance out your oil and dry patches on your skin; Jojoba Oil which maintains your skin's barrier and helps nourish the skin as well honeybush which is included for it's anti-aging; anti-oxidant and healing properties.

As you know from my posts, I'm a huge fan of the Esse Cleansers so I'm happy I got to add this to my beauty counter as it's helped keep my skin hydrated this winter.

ps: Esse is certified organic; supports fair trade; is a member of Beauty Without Cruelty and is vegan!

This jar retails for R350.00 (50ml) and can be found on the Esse website here.

[REVIEW]: LUSH Ultrabland

The LUSH Cult Classic - Ultrabland

Ultrabland... bland? How about UltraAMAZING! This facial cleanser is ultra effective and ultra hydrating!

This cleanser has a oily, yet creamy consistency and is so gentle on your skin. Made from ingredients such as Almond Oil; Rosewater and beeswax (other ingredients are listed below), this cleanser helps remove make up as well as thouroughly cleanses the skin.

This cleanser doesn't have much of a scent which might be where the bland part of the name comes in but it's the effectiveness that counts!

Warm up a small amount in your hands and then apply it to your face, rub it in with some love and tenderness. After massaging it into your skin you can use a cloth or cotton wool pad with some warm water to wipe it off.

Your skin is left hydrated and clean! No wonder this is one of the Lush founders' number one desert island products!

Plus a great thing about this packaging is that it's made from 100% recycled plastic!

It's R120.00 for the 45g tub (this is the 45g one) or R190.00 for the 100g tub and you can find it here on the Lush website.

Have you used Ultrabland yet?

[REVIEW]: Babor Lip Repair Balm

Basic Care Lip Repair Balm from Babor

Winter for me can be summed up in two words, cold & dry. Here in Gauteng your skin gets so dry, no matter how many oils you slather on and that's not too mention how dry your lips feel! As I said on my tweet yesterday, this product will be your new best friend in winter.

Made from Argan oil; shea butter; avocado oil; sesame oil; soja oil and olive oil, this lip balm helps protect your lips, nourishes them and leaves them soft and supple.

This lip balm is unscented so its perfect to use day or night. How gorgeous is the packaging? Perfect to pop into your handbag and whip out in front of friends, although I'm super stingy with this lip balm because I love it so much haha.

It's pricey, R154.00, but I hate dry lips so I definitely think it's worth it. You can order it from the Babor website here.

What are your favourite lip products during winter?
