[BEAUTY]: Label.m Blonde Hair Care

Brightening Blonde Shampoo & Conditioner from label.m

My fellow blondies out there know that being a blonde is hard work! My natural hair colour is a very dark blonde and you'll have noticed on my snapchat and instagram that I've been going lighter and lighter with each salon visit.

While I usually tone my blonde by adding some gentian violet to my normal shampoos, now that I've gone even lighter I've switched up my hair care routine by using these label.m products every second or third wash.

First impression? LOVE!

This brightening blonde shampoo & conditioner help to gradually lighten and brighten your blonde tones while still helping to nourish your hair and prevent breakage.

The shampoo contains natural extracts such as White Pineapple, Mamaki Tea, and Lemon which helps to activate the lightening process, yet without damaging or drying out hair which can happen so easily with chemically treated blonde hair.

The conditioner has botanical toners such as Mamaki Tea & Custard Apple which prevent brassiness and oxidation. It also has Starfruit, which is rich in Vitamins B and C thus aids collagen formation and strengthens the hair shaft from roots to ends. Winning!

Those that read my hair care posts often know that the scent of the product plays a key role in whether I will continue using it - um, it smells amazing so that's a definite yes! Also, you all know how I feel about conditioner - this one is the perfect texture!

Blondes, I highly recommend this shampoo and conditioner! The shampoo retails for R240.00 for 300ml and the conditioner for R260.00 for 300ml (yay for big bottles). Available at selected Splush stores (contact: 0214488847).

[BEAUTY]: Summer Hair Care

Products I'm Currently Using This Summer

Summer time for me, means spending most of my days in the swimming pool pretending to be a mermaid, or frolicking in the waves of the ocean if I'm lucky enough to be at the coast during the festive season.

While I will always love being in the water, the chlorine from swimming pools and the salt from the ocean, takes a toll on your hair.

Needless to say, my usual OCD routine with my hair care has cranked up another notch to stop my hair from drying out. This means I'm switching between different hair masks and have been doing oil treatments more often.

I've reviewed these treatments before so some are almost finishing and some I had two of so you can read more about each one on the links:

I like to apply this from roots, yes that's right, roots to tips and then sleep with it in. This gives my hair that extra nourishment it needs and allows it to soak in the oils from this premium oil.

This is one of my favourite masks. It smells heavenly and works wonders at revitalising my hair.

Davines is one of my top hair care brands that is green and glam and while I only use this mask now and then as it's quite 'heavy' on my hair, it's great for hydrating and strengthening your hair.

While this is not a mask, it's a definite treatment for your hair in my opinion. You need to leave it on for a few minutes and less is more when it comes to this conditioner.

How do you keep your locks shiny and healthy during summer?

[REVIEW]: Clipin Hair

Beach Blonde Hair Extensions from Clipinhair

Long princess hair, it's what every girl dreams of! While some beauties manage to achieve Rapunzel status, some need a little help from the hair extension fairy godmothers!

While I do take extra care of my hair to make sure it's healthy, a bit of extra length is what I've been dreaming of. I have a lot of hair, but it's a lot of fine hair and it sure takes it's time to grow so these Beach Blonde hair extensions from Clipinhair are perfect for those days I want to dazzle with my hair.

When applying your clipin extensions, start from the bottom of you hairline and slowly work your way up and then towards the sides. Here is a video from Clipinhair that demonstrates how to attach your extensions.

You also get a step-by-step guide with your extensions which helps when you are putting them in for the first time.

Here is a before and then an after photo:

I recently took some style photos and was wearing my awesome new extensions, the first post that features them is this Rugby style post . I haven't curled them yet as I've been enjoying them straight but will curl them when I have a big event to get ready for.

Right, so you've purchased your extensions, what else will you need? I recommend the clipin carrier (R80.00) which safely stores your extensions and then you need to use a Tangle Teezer (which I've recently reviewed on my blog - here). Great news is that you can purchase a Tangle Teezer from Clipinhair for R190.00 and get one FREE (special runs till the 30th of September). This helps maintain your extensions without damaging them.

The shade I'm wearing is called Beach Blonde in 20" and 120g and will be available on the site next month. You can email Clipinhair before hand if you want to pre-order it.

You know how I love playing with my hair colour so can we quickly take a moment to look at these silver extensions - swooooooon!

If you do order a set, use the discount code 'glamgreengirl' and you will get R100 off! Yay!

So what do you think of my mermaid hair?

[REVIEW]: Wella Professionals Elements Collection

New Hair Care Range by Wella

Hair care products that contain fewer chemicals but do not compromise on performance? Sounds intriguing to me, how about you?

Wella's new hair care range which is inspired my nature and has a theme which links to the life force of trees helps provide up to 10 times more keratin protection for renewed hair vitality.

Free of sulpahtes; parabens and artificial colourants; these hair care products contain the NuTree complex. The NuTree complex is a sustainably sourced natural tree extract which is an antioxidant (this helps reduce free radical damage).

So what are my thoughts on this range? The first word that comes to my mind when I think of how it made my hair feel after using it is nourished. It also has a gorgeous scent that inspired by the green woods of the Amazon forest which includes top notes of green basil; water lily; star fruit and mandarin.

My favourite product from this range is the Renewing Mask, it's one of the best hair masks I've tried recently - I even tweeted about it and chatted about it on my snapchat!

Renewing Shampoo: R207
Renewing Conditioner: R243
Renewing Mask: R252
Conditioning Leave-In Spray: R252

These products are available at Wella Professional Salons or you can purchase them online from Retail Box.

[REVIEW]: July Test Box 2015

First Impressions of The July Test Box

Dumb Blonde? Who you calling a Dumb Blonde? Don't worry TIGI, I've heard all the jokes before ;)

How gorgeous are these products? This is what you can expect in your July Test Box.
What's up with the packaging you may ask? Well The Test Box has partnered up with a few brands to create their own packaging so we can have more samples from more brands that don't offer sample sizes.

I used these products over the weekend so this is a first impressions post because I decided to keep the rest for my trip to Zambia in August because I enjoyed them so much!

This pink, shimmery shampoo has a sweet fragrance that reminds me of sweeties from when I was young and is a 'sticky' consistency which means you only need a small amount. It contains keratin and milk protein which helps rebuild your hair's strength and cares for chemically treated blonde hair. Being a blonde myself, this is perfect to help keep my hair healthy and shiny.

This conditioner definitely has a fruity scent to it, plus the colour reminds me of a smoothie. It's a light weight conditioner that is actually referred to as a reconstructor as it helps restore the hair at it's core and protects the strands. It adds hydration and left my hair feeling soft and smooth. Plus I just have to add again, it smells divine.

This smoothing cream is perfect for after the party, and by party, I mean letting my hair dry naturally :P You all know from reading my blog that I try let my hair dry whenever possible but sometimes it has a bit of a frizz vibe to it so this is great for those fly-aways.

This box is R160.00 and is available here. You can also head to the Test Box website for prices on the full sized products.

Have you used TIGI (which is cruelty free) before?

[REVIEW]: Label.M Sea Salt Spray

Sea Salt Spray

Mermaid vibes calls for mermaid hair, or as I sometimes like to call it "Serena Van Der Woodsen" hair. How do I achieve that? Let me introduce you to Sea Salt Spray.

This Sea Salt Spray from label.m helps create loose, natural, beachy waves with a tousled look. It gives your hair a matte look which I prefer to the sticky shiny look that some mousses give you when you're trying to create easy waves.

This product even includes Environshield Complex which helps protect hair against heat styling tools and UV rays.

My favourite way to use this protect is to allow my hair to air dry after washing it and then spraying into my hair and scrunching it with my hands (I like to use my hands instead of a diffuser for this look). What I enjoy about this product, apart from the beachy waves it creates, is that I don't need to use heat on my hair which in the end benefits my hair.

Label.m is an environmentally concerned company and is cruelty free, plus all their packaging is recyclable.

This spray retails for R265.00 and is available from Splush or you can contact Hair Cair Distributors for more info.

Have you used a sea salt spray before? Should I do a YouTube tutorial featuring this spray?

[REVIEW]: Davines Essential Haircare - MINU

The Minu Family from Davines' New Essential Haircare Line

Before I tell you more about this hair care range from Davines, I have to tell you about what makes me love this brand even more! The Slow Food project!

What is that? Well, Davines have partnered up with the non-profit Slow Food Foundation for Biodiversity by joining the Presidia Project. Basically they are helping to protect the Earth's biodiversity by helping certain areas to continue to grow plants that are indigenous to that area and help prevent the disappearance of a genetic heritage. Their goal is to relaunch the economy of these areas and prevent the extinction of local artisan traditions.

Each family in the Essential Haircare line contains one specific active ingredient from a Slow Food Presidium. The MINU range contains an extract of Salina Caper which is grown by Mr Salvatore DÁmico on his farm in Messina (Salina Island).

These capers help protect colour and have quercitin which is a powerful amino acid that helps to protect the structure of the hair.

Now to chat about the MINU range. Firstly, may of you will have realised that a products scent is important to me, these products have a sweet, citrus scent thanks to the orange blossom notes which I do enjoy as it's not too overpowering. Secondly, using these products differs if you have fine or course hair (I'll explain both). The MINU range is all about illuminating and protected cosmetically coloured hair.

Fine Hair:
Use the shampoo, rinse it out and repeat (I do this with all shampoos as it helps remove product build up from your hair). Secondly you can use the conditioner if you want, leave it on for 10 minutes, rinse it out. Then apply the serum. You can skip the conditioner step if you want to and just spray the serum on towel-dried hair. Don't rinse it off.

Course hair:

Shampoo twice (the same as fine hair). Apply the Mask and leave it on for 10 minutes, rinse off and then apply the serum. Don't rinse it off.

My Thoughts:

I enjoyed all the products in the range, they are amazing and really leave your hair feeling stronger and healthier. I have a lot of hair, but it's fine so I did feel the Mask was a bit too heavy for my hair but it's great to use every few weeks to give your hair a boost. Plus if you pop in at Carlton, you can have the conditioner or mask applied and then add the Micro Mist treatment - its so divine!

 Shampoo - R230 for 250ml
 Conditioner - R225 for 250ml
 Mask - R345 for 250ml
Serum - R 290 for 150ml.

You can find out more on the Davines website or their facebook page.

[REVIEW]: The Test Box - May 2015

May 2015's Edition of The Test Box - Plump It Up!

I've spoken about The Test Box on my blog before (here in this post and here in this post linked to my YouTube) and I really love the concept of it. The reason as I've mentioned before it that you get proper samples to test out, not just a small sachet that you can only use once! This is great when it comes to hair care as often you need to test it properly before committing to buying a big bottle.

The first thing that caught my attention with the Plumping Range from Kevin Murphy was the scent! It has a subtle floral scent and contains the notes of orchid, white floral and citrus extracts - hmmmm! The next thing for me was testing if it really did 'Plump Up" my hair and the best way for me to test this was to let my hair air dry! When I air dry my hair, it goes limp but I usually tie it up in the week when it's like that so that I can save myself from damaging it with heat. The verdict? I actually had some volume! I was quite impressed to say the least!

The May Test box will cost you R160.00 but you get these the small shampoo and conditioner, plus a divine body candle that is perfect for winter! If you're keen to buy the full sized Kevin Murphy product, you can use the code Murphy.Me when you check out and you'll get R30.00 off! Another great thing is that you don't have to subscribe for a certain amount of time, you can order for just the one month if you want!

For more info check out The Test Box website.

Can we also just chat about how cut the Kevin Murphy bunny is? Yay for being cruelty free!

[REVIEW] New Hair & The Lastest Hair Trends

Rose Gold Hues & The 2015 Hair Trends

Last week I had my hair done by the uber talented David Gillson at Carlton in Melrose Arch. I had been playing around with the idea of changing my hair colour up a bit and had been so inspired to add some rose gold to it. Since we are transitioning into winter at the moment, there was no better time to do it.

I love having my hair done by David as he uses Davines products and from my previous posts you will know that I love Davines because not only are they fantastic hair care products but the brand is very environmentally conscious!

David used a light wash through my hair and I love how my previous highlights shine through, adding dimension to the colour. I highly recommend the micro mist treatment from Carlton - ah mah zing!

Want to know what the latest hair trends are for the next few months? Rose Gold, duh ;) plus here is a run down of a few more:

True Nature - embrace your natural hair, ditch the weaves and extensions, chemicals and rock your natural hair!

Baby Lights - it's a backlash against the ombre trend and is so much easier to manage compared to normal highlights. It's all about fine wisps of hair.

Matt Brights - adventure with colour; pixelated hair colours; bright colours

Bleached Blondes - Inspired by the one and only Kim Kardashian, embrace the 90's bleached look

Grey - the young are now aiming to look grey!

Which hair trend are you going to try?

Don't forget to call Carlton to book an appointment with David, you won't be sorry!

[REVIEW]: Biotin & Collagen Root Boost Spray

Organix Root Boost Spray

Big hair, don't care! Yeah you know what I'm talking about! It's what we all lust over, thick & voluminous hair. Well how do we get it? Sometimes we need a little help from our friends.
Introducing the Thick & Full Biotin & Collagen Root Boost Spray from Organix. This hair texturizing spray can be sprayed on damp hair before styling or later in the day just to give it a bit of a boost.
I've found that the best way to create a volume with this product is to spray it onto your damp hair, focusing on your roots and then give your hair a blast of heat while having your hair flipped over (upside down). Organix suggests using a round brush but I always use a paddle brush when blow drying my hair and I still managed to create the desired effect.
My only gripe is that I felt like my hair was a bit oily the next day (I can usually go about 3 days between washes) but I did enjoy the volume it created and I'll definitely be using it as a texturiser for braided hairstyles.

This Biotin & Collagen Root Boosting Spray is available from selected Foschini stores for R179.95

Do you use any root boosting sprays?

[REVIEW]: Mongogo Shampoo & Conditioner

Africa Organics Mongogo Shampoo & Conditioner

Natural hair care can be a tough one sometimes and my last review on an Africa Organics hair care range wasn't the best but I did enjoy the shampoo and even featured it in this video.

So how did I feel about the Mongogo range? Well, keep reading ;)

This shampoo is made from oils pressed from the seeds from the Mongogo Trees in the Kalahari Desert. What's so special about these trees? Since they are in the desert, they've had to learn to adapt to finding water and can survive long droughts.

These oils pressed from the seeds of these remarkable trees then form a protective thin layer over each hair strand. I didn't enjoy the scent as much as the Marula shampoo which contains Mint Oil but it seemed to be more gentle on my hair compared to the Marula one.

This Mongogo Conditioner also contains Mongogo Oil to help protect the hair, and although it didn't leave my hair as dry and tangled as the Marula conditioner one did, I'm still not a fan of it. It's too thin and I don't feel like it conditions my hair well enough...

So while I don't feel that the shampoo and conditioners from Africa Organics are that great, I have been using the Marula Hair Treatment Oil for a long time and have enjoyed it!

What are your thoughts?
