[EVENT]: Planting in Thembisa

Onion Planting in Thembisa with I'MPossible

On Thursday the 30th of April, I joined the I'MPossible crew to plant some onions for the Thembisa community. We demonstrated how you can plant vegetables even if you don't have a garden by reusing mealie meal bags! We also got to help the community harvest the cabbage and spinach they had already grown.

You can read more about what my ambassadorship with I'MPossible here. I'm so looking forward to the next projects we'll be doing, I'm make sure to keep you all in the loop! I'll also let you know when the episodes air in Tshwane TV!

[NOTE]: I'MPossible Ambassador

Exciting Announcement

I'm thrilled to announce that I am now a I'MPossible ambassador! So what is I'MPossible? Well they do what their slogan says, "make things possible"! They partner with different companies to try and help those that are disadvantaged, for example, they work with the ACFS (African Children Feeding Scheme) - an organisation that focuses on educating and feeding children in different communities.

Through working with I'MPossible I will be able to go after the projects that I've started working on with much more force. As you know, trees in Zambia and the Platbos Forest are very important to me as well as the Elephant Orphanage in Zambia so I will be able to use I'MPossible as a platform to work more with these organisations. I also cannot wait to start on some new projects that will help spread the word of going green!

Yesterday we planted some vegetables at a school in Naledi, Soweto and gave monthly food packages to the families of the community. We also filmed a segment explaining what we were planting to help inform the communities on planting vegetables. This will be aired on Tshwane TV (DSTV channel 262) but I will hopefully be able to share the episodes on my YouTube Channel.

Here are some photos from yesterdays event:

I'm so looking forward to haring more exciting projects with you!
Thank you all for your support!

The Lilayi Elephant Nursery

The Elephant Orphanage in Lusaka, Zambia

Hi friends,

During my last trip to Zambia, I got to spend some time in Lusaka (I usually head straight down to the Zambezi River after I've landed in Lusaka) and popped in at the Lilayi Elephant Nursery which is situated at Lilayi Lodge. I had been dying to go and see the elephants so I was thrilled that I finally got a chance to visit them. Next time I manage to squeeze in a Lusaka visit I hope to have lunch at the restaurant at Lilayi Lodge, how fabulous does it look?

The Lilayi Elephant Nursery is managed by Game Rangers International and is home to rescued elephant calves. Here they are cared for, looked after, rehabilitated and receive huge amounts of love before they are taken to the Kafue Release Facility  and released where they are with wild elephants in the Kafue National Park.

When I was there in the beginning of September there were 4 baby elephants. At a certain time each morning you can stand on the viewing deck and watch the elephants receive their milk bottles. One of the cutest things I've ever seen, was watching these babies run to the pen to get their milk bottles. They finish a 2l bottle of milk in 5 seconds!

Here are some photos:

All of these babies that are in the orphanage have sad and tragic stories that just break your heart. Like Suni, she was 8 months old when she was found - poachers had attacked her mother and when she tried to defend her mother she was attacked with an axe on her spine! This paralysed her back right leg. She had intense nerve damage but thanks to the dedication and love from the elephant nursery who massaged her, treated her with acupuncture and developed a brace for her she can now walk! How amazing is that!

You can meet the rest of the Lilayi babies here, Nkala (the smallest one) is my favourite <3

A very, very big THANK YOU to everyone that supports this amazing organisation from those donate, to those that work with the elephants - you are all so wonderful!
I'm busy with an exciting new project that will offer you a chance to help out - look out for details about it soon!

EVENT: Project Pedicure

Project Pedicure with The Laser Beautique & SAID

Last week Monday I attended the "Project Pedicure" event hosted by The Laser Beautique and SAID (Society for Animals In Distress). The event was held at the SAID's farm in Midrand and marked the start of the Project Pedicure.

Through Project Pedicure, 50 horses that work in the Thembisa Coal Yards will receive new shoes thanks to The Laser Beautique. As someone who loves animals, this project is important to me as it's a way to help the communities in the Thembisa area as well as the beautiful horses that provide their owners with the opportunity of earning a living by providing coal to the community.

Below are some photos from the event.

Above is a photo of Fawn from Deer Delights, Chicara from Lipgloss Kisses and I receiving our pedicures in support of the horses and The Laser Beautique

A bit more about SAID "Established in 1958, The Society for Animals in Distress (SAID), a non-profit organisation, recognised a critical need for primary health and professional veterinary care for animals in the townships of Johannesburg. SAID works in 8 townships north and north-east of Johannesburg. Within Tembisa, by far the largest township they operate in, they service approximately 180 equine through The Coal-Yard Project which was established in 2004 providing education, veterinary care, guidance and expertise in ensuring healthy animals and responsible ownership. Each winter, SAID shoes the horses on the programme and from April through to August they target 40 to 50 equine a month."

You can help support this cause by booking your next mani or pedi at The Laser Beautique, I often go to the one in Woodlands, Pretoria and I just love the staff there! The more pedicure that are done, the more horses can be shoed each year, so come on ladies get your toes ready for spring and lets help these horses!
