ZAMBIA: March 2014

The Beautiful Zambezi River

Hi lovelies,

I've just come back from 9 amazing days on the Zambezi River in Zambia and wanted to share some of my snaps with you! I can't believe this miserable weather that we're having in Pretoria, I definitely am missing the hot (and I mean HOT) weather that we had whilst in Zambia.

From the 1st of December to the 1st of March, Zambia closes it's side of the Zambezi River to fishing. This is a wonderful initiative that helps the Tiger Fish to repopulate. Unfortunately the Zimbabwean side is still open but at least every little bit helps. Another rule along the Zambian side of the Zambezi River is, you have comply with the "catch and release" rules, so all Tiger Fish are released as soon as we've caught them.  I was lucky enough to be there for the opening of the season and fished in the competition with my dad, we came 3rd place yay!

I had an amazing time, it was so wonderful to spend time with my Zambian friends and to be on the utterly majestic Zambezi River surrounded by the exquisite nature that Africa has been blessed with. 2 of our family friends even got engaged (congrats Gary & Dianna),I caught a tiger fish worthy of a trophy in my books haha and I got to relax and unwind after a hectic few weeks.

The view outside my tented chalet

Having a spit braai to celebrate the opening of the fishing season

How gorgeous does the sky look after a heavy storm?

A rainbow!

The sun setting after a huge storm

"Just like the rains down in Africa" - admit it, you sang that part right now!

Beautiful sunset

We went upstream the one day to C camp, so beautiful

Making a braai on the sandbank

Ah its a cookie monster cloud! Can you see the face?

Another day, another braai along the River

My Tiger Fish! YAY! Don't worry, as I mentioned before, after weighing this big boy we released him back into the River and watched him swim merrily away

Even the elephants came to watch me catch a fish ;)

So my first trip back to Zambia for 2014 was definitely a winner, I feel like each time I go it just gets better and better, and I definitely leave a small piece of my heart in Zambia with every trip.

Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed this post!
Look out for some new reviews and tips coming up in the next few weeks.

Thanks for leaving a comment. It's always great to hear from you. ♥

  1. Oh Zambia is so beautiful, and cruising along the Zambezi is one of my favourite things to do whenever I go visit my parents.
