Facial Cleansers

Glam and Green Facial Cleansers

image: pintrest

I am a real stickler when it comes to my skin, no matter how tired I am - I always make sure I've removed all my make-up before bed. This includes late nights where a make-up wipe is my best friend, one way or another I never go to bed with make-up on!

Recently I've been testing out a few face washes and decided to put them all together so you can find something to your liking. Some like a gel cleanser; an oil cleanser; a milky cleanser or a cream cleanser - its all about finding which one works best for you.

~ Esse Gel Cleanser - R150 for 100ml

As I was busy getting the last few prices for this post I saw the wonderful Chereen Strydom (almost typed Gibson ;) ) from 'For The Beauty of It' posted about cleaning your face in a wonderful blog post - head over here to read what she suggests!

Do you use any of these cleansers or are they on your list-to-buy?

Glam and Green - Baby Products

Glam and Green Products for the Little One

With a few friends having just had babies, or about to have a baby, I was inspired to write a post on some natural and organic products that could be used on babies. Imagine being able to use products that have zero chemicals or nasty ingredients on your child's precious skin? It is possible!

Before I introduce you to some great products - click here to read about Tasha Sach's from Mioja (review) ,journey of raising her children using natural products and immersing them in the beauty of what the world has to offer, naturally.

Thank you Tasha - what an interesting read!

And now, some information on baby products:

SOil Organics:

Baby blend, 100ml, R85
"Research has shown that baby massage promotes growth and development in premature babies and has many benefits for babies and parents in general. Enjoy a bonding experience with your baby using this relaxing and soothing massage oil. This gentle blend of chamomile, Lavender and olive oil will help keep your baby’s skin moisturised and can also help relax colicky babies. As for all of our products, this massage oil contains no petrochemical ingredients/mineral oil."

I truly believe in the calming and healing power of Lavender, so this is a great bed time product to use on the little one as a massage oil or even for bath time.

Stretch Mark Oil, 100ml, R85
"A nourishing blend of Rose Hip seed oil, rich in essential fatty acids and vitamins, Tangerine and Lavender to keep the skin soft and supple while preventing and treating scarring. This product is not exclusive to use during pregnancy, but it is particularly suitable."

A divine product to treat yourself with that smells delightful - great to use before and after pregnancy. *confession* If you're like me, and have stunning stretch marks *sarcasm* even though you are not a mother , I highly suggest this product for you as well.

Get ready for summer
Summer is on the way and it is time to start getting your skin ready to soak up the sun and shine.
To help prep your skin for summer, exfoliating is essential else you are just tanning dry skin that is already coming off. In addition, keeping your skin moisturised will help to prolong your tan and stop your skin from getting dry during the hot weather.

Sanctum Body Buff is an excellent every day exfoliator, an invigorating gel scrub based on the buffing action of Luffa and crushed Walnut shell, removing dry skin and ingrained impurities.  Gentle enough for daily use, your body will feel fresh and revived.  Body Buff is ideal for the summer months with its revitalizing ingredients and its gentle exfoliation won’t remove your tan and will keep your skin glowing.  Body Buff contains 86% certified organic ingredients.

For daily moisturising, Sanctum Body Soothe is a light, nourishing body lotion that absorbs quickly into the skin for instant hydration.  Enriched with Chamomile Flower Extract, it is beneficial for sensitive and allergy prone skin as it soothes and protects.  It also has a fresh, light citrus fragrance which won’t clash with your summer perfume.

There is no point in going to all this effort for your body, and then forgetting your face. The Sanctum Face Exfoliator contains rice bran and crushed walnut shell; it is a gentle exfoliator that polishes away dead skin cells and impurities.
All products are available online from www.harmlesshouse.co.za and selected stores.   For further information, contact Tracey Pictor on 082 722 9472 or tracey@harmlesshouse.co.za

Review - Naturals Beauty

A review on 2 products from Naturals Beauty

Tanya, from Naturals Beauty recently sent me two products to try and review. Both such great products. I'd first like to mention a bit about Naturals Beauty before I discuss the products.

Naturals Beauty:

"All our beauty products are handcrafted and made in small, fresh batches. No mass-manufactured products and we always use the highest quality natural ingredients & organic ingredients wherever possible. We’re committed to making products that are free from petrochemicals, parabens, synthetic fragrances and harmful chemicals. We do not test our products on animals, nor are any of our source products tested on animals." -

Isnt that great to know?

First up is the Milk Cleanser:

"A creamy lotion that gently cleanses the skin and removes impurities and make-up. The anti-aging properties of the polyphenols (apple extract) and the omega oils (avocado oil) will moisturise, smooth, hydrate and refresh the skin. Sutherlandia and Cucumber keeps the skin healthy and improves skin radiance" - Tanya

I really enjoy using this cleanser especially as the days have become colder, leading to your skin becoming drier. Usually when I wash my face in the shower, I feel like as soon as I step out of the shower, the first thing I reach for is my moisturiser. I really hate that 'dry' feeling some facewashes leave you with. This is why I'm a fan of this cleanser, the creaminess leaves your skin feeling great and not dried out, great especially for winter!

The second product I tried out from the Naturals Beauty range was the hydrating masque:

"A hydrating and purifying masque which will remove impurities from the skin, soothe, moisturise and nourish it. Chamomile extract have calming and protective properties. Anti-oxidants provided by Rooibos extract and Vitamin E to keep skin healthy and younger looking. Ideal for all skin types.
Use weekly. Apply a thin layer. Leave on for 20 min. Rinse with warm water" - Tanya

This masque became my Sunday night treat, but since you only need a thin layer and its light on your skin, I decided to use it twice a week. With the weather becoming colder, it really is a great product to keep your skin mositurised. Another great thing is that it doesnt even look like you have a masque on your face, you never know who might ring your doorbell ;) Use it whenever you feel your skin needs some loving!

Here is the link where Tanya gives some information on taking care of your skin in the colder months, it also has the link to her website where she has some fabulous products

Thank you Tanya for allowing me to test these great products!

A Few Simple Tips

A few simple tips on how to be Glam and Green

Small changes, its what I'm always going on about. But its true, small changes can really help! Here are a few tips on how to become more Glam and Green - easy tips that will help the environment but wont make a drastic change to your routine.

  • I like to keep two boxes in my bathroom, one for paper and one for plastic. My recycling bins are downstairs in the courtyard so sometimes I'll leave an empty shampoo bottle on my bathroom counter with the intention of taking it down to the recycling bin later but when I go fetch it, unfortunately its already been thrown away in the trash bin. So by having these two boxes, I can rather fill them up and take it all down to the recycling bins. There is a lot in your bathroom that can be recycled - products that have finished for eg: a body cream (plastic); toilet paper - toilet roll equals to paper; You get new products that are first packaged in paper; I always cut the tags off new clothing in my bathroom equalling to plastic and paper. You'll be surprised how much you'll actually be able to recycle! Those boxes will be full in no time!

  • Are you like me and obsessed with making lists? I know you are! Unfortunately this means using lots of paper, which means cutting down trees. If you like to write it all down, use up every free space of the paper and then when you're finished recycle it! Otherwise your phones, iPads, laptops all have apps that allow you to write notes and memos - use them!

  • Choose organic beauty products - but dont throw out all your products so you can go green - that defeats the point, you will just be causing waste. Rather 'convert' slowly, only buying when neccessary. Look out for reviews soon from Naturals Beauty, Mioja and Soil!

  • Working on your laptop/computer all day? Rather switch it off at the end of the day instead of allowing it to 'sleep' - save electricity

  • When doing laundry, rather use cold temperatures. 90% of electricity goes into heating water, and most loads dont need hot water. Save water and electricity

  • Use matches instead of lighters - lighters just end up in landfills

  • Choose organic food - better for you and for the environment

  • Swap your magazines with your friends - instead of all buying the same magazine, make a list and each friend buys one - and then recycle it, or use it as wrapping paper like in this post

Simple and easy hey? Even if you just manage a few of these, you'll be helping! High five to you ;)

What are your simple green tips?
